Conflict and Commerce

The U.S. has proposed that Türkiye trade in its Russian-made S-400s in exchange for reentry into the F-35 Program. The US originally kicked Türkiye out of the program due to their purchase of the S-400s. Türkiye’s F-35 deal was originally valued at $2.5 Billion.
My Take:

• Türkiye should give up its S-400s to avoid interfering with NATO’s air defense systems, which is essential for a unified defense strategy.
• Türkiye’s growing relationship with Russia complicates its role in NATO, despite being one of the alliance’s stronger militaries.
• The U.S. is unlikely to accept Türkiye’s proposal to store the S-400s, as it prioritizes protecting its military technology. The best course of action is for Türkiye to either turn the S-400s over to the US or sell them to another country that already uses Russian made systems which would not hurt its relationship with Russia.
